Consultation to Date
In June 2008, AgriFood Skills Australia commenced the development of the required Training Package materials following initial research which found that:
· there were no nationally endorsed competency standards to meet the job outcome requirements for equine dental service providers
· there was a need for national competency standards to assist State/Territory regulators to establish accreditation and regulation of equine dental service providers.
The initial development work was undertaken in consultation with peak equine dental associations and the first draft of Qualifications and Units of Competency were completed in September 2008.
Since that time, targeted consultation has taken place including the establishment of a National Reference Group to refine the initial draft materials. Further consultation phases have been conducted that aimed to secure feedback from the broad horse related industry sectors as well as State and Territory regulators and industry associations.
These consultation phases have resulted in agreement being reached by the National Reference Group members that the draft Certificate IV in Equine Dentistry materials meet the industry job role outcome requirements, and these materials have been progressed to the validation phase.
Unfortunately, stakeholder consensus has not been reached for the draft Diploma of Equine Dentistry materials. Therefore the Diploma is being progressed on a separate timeline as further consultation work is required.
